Dubai at six-year low..

Some downbeat economic news today..

“Dubai’s index tumbled to a six-year low and Oman saw its largest drop in two years on Monday as widening protests in the sultanate and a steep drop in Saudi stocks a day earlier sparked a sell-off on Gulf markets. Dubai dropped 3.8 per cent to its lowest finish since June 2004. Volumes hit a four-week high and were triple those of Sunday, indicating rising selling pressure..”

Around eight hundred thousand visitors travel to Dubai from the UK alone each year to enjoy the ‘paradise on Earth’. What most are ignorant of are the strict and often surprising laws in place in this paradise. Some of you may have heard of the widely publicised case in which an English couple were jailed for ‘openly expressing affection’ on a beach in Dubai, but there have been several other examples.

This article explains more about other examples of foreigners being caught out, and what you can do to help avoid a similar fate.

Having long held an interest in the Middle East, the Sheriff family decided to relocate there at the beginning of 2009, looking for fresh challenges and a better way of life. The Sheriff family moved to Dubai permanently in April 2010 and have never looked back.

Professionally, it is my belief that the UK will suffer a pro longed period of recession. Having lost Bank of Scotland and The Royal Bank of Scotland during the crisis it is my belief that east central Scotland particularly may never be the same again as these institutions were so very crucial to all forms of transactional work in Scotland. For the Sheriff family, it is our belief that our children will have a far better environment in which to develop in Dubai. Schooling is strong and multi cultural giving them the opportunities to meet new people from all different areas of the world
